Links to Minnesota government agencies statutes, regulations, cases, etc. are posted by Minnesota State Law Library and FindLaw. Primary legal materials are also available from Lexis, Westlaw and Loislaw. Subscription services Versuslaw Fastcasehave cases back to 1950; Google Scholar has cases back to 1950 for free. Supreme and appellate court cases are published in West’s North Western Reporter.
To check the status of pending legislation, pull up the bill using the Minnesota Legislature’s Bill Search and Status (instructions available here), then click on “Status of Bill in the House” and “Status of Bill in the Senate.” For questions about Minnesota legislation, call the House Public Information Services (651-296-2146), House Index Office (651-296-6646) or the Senate Information Office (651-296-0504).
To get recordings of Senate Hearings call Media Services for video of select hearings from the past two years (651-296-0264) and Senate Supply for audio of all hearings going back farther (651-296-5720). For the House of Representatives, video of floor sessions (back to 2000) and audio of committee hearings (back to 2004) is available on the House Web site www.house.mn. You can order cassette tapes of older floor sessions and hearings by calling House Public Information (800-657-3550).
The Dunnell Minnesota Digest (available in print and on Lexis) is an encyclopedia of Minnesota law. William S. Hein & Co. publishes a Minnesota Legal Research Guide by Arlette Soderberg and Barbara Golden.
