A definition of Adjustment to Lawful Permanent Resident (Immigrant) Status, in the context of refugee resettlement and non-emergency repatriation, may be provided here: Procedure requiring certain aliens, such as refugees already in the United States, to apply for a change in alien status. Aliens admitted to the United States in a refugee or parolee category are issued an I-94 Arrival/Departure Record. After residing in the U.S. for one year, refugees and asylees must apply to have the status changed to that of Lawful Permanent Resident.

In relation to immigration and citizenship, Lawful permanent resident is defined as: Any person not a citizen of the U.S. who is residing in the in the U.S. under legally recognized and lawfully recorded permanent residence as an immigrant. Also known as “Permanent Resident Alien,” “Resident Alien Permit Holder,” and “Green Card Holder.”
