Ab Initio Definition
(Lat. initium, beginning). From the beginning; entirely; as to all the acts done; in the inception. An estate may be said to be good, an agreement to be void, an act to be unlawful, a trespass to have existed, ab initio. Plowd. 6a; 11 East, 395; 10 Johns. (N. Y.) 253, 369; 1 Bl. Comm. 440. Before. Contrasted in this sense with ex post facto (2 Bl. Comm. 308), or with postea (Calv. Lex. voc. “Initium”).
