Sierra Club in Environmental Law

An organization founded in 1892 by John Muir.

It is dedicated to environmental concerns and uses a number of methods to influence decisions: public education, lobbying, lawsuits, and involvement in administrative processes. The Sierra Club welcomes members.

The mission statement of the Sierra Club is broad: “To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.” The organization accomplishes these goals through political action committees, publication of books and a periodical, a legal defense fund, a foundation that sponsors a wide variety of activities, and an international group.
