Licensee Definition
A person to whom a license has been granted. Invitation. In a strict and legal sense there is a distinction between a mere licensee and one who comes upon the premises of another by invitation, express or implied. While in a general sense one upon the premises of another by invitation is a licensee, in a legal sense an invitation gives the visitor a different status from that of a licensee, and entitles him to a somewhat higher degree of care from the owner. 141 111. App. 437; 200 111. 122; 235 111. 526. Naked Licensee. A person on premises by permission of law but without invitation from the owner is a mere naked licensee. 179 111. App. 604; 143 111. 189.
