The thing done or omitted to be done which confers the right upon the other to sueji that is, the wrong against the plaintiffs which caused a grievance for which the law gives a remedy. 272 111. 156. A cause of action is said to accrue to any person when that person first comes to a right to bring an action. There is, however, an obvious distinction between a cause of action and a right, though a cause of action generally confers a right. Thus, statutes of limitation do not affect the cause of action, but take away the right. It is synonymous with right of action (26 How. Pr. [N. Y.] 108) , but not with chose in action (10 How. Pr. [N. Y.] 1).
