Definition of Volunteer Protection Act of 1997

A concept of Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 applicable in the United States: . 105-19. Federal law that limits liability of uncompensated volunteers, including board members, for injuries caused by negligent conduct of the volunteer while acting within the scope of authority provided to him/her as a volunteer of a governmental agency or a charitable organization. The Act does not provide protection from claims of gross negligence, willful or criminal misconduct, reckless misconduct, or conscious, flagrant indifference to the rights or safety of the individual harmed by the volunteer.
