The designated period prescribed by law during which a court may sit to transact business. This period may also be called term time. The periods during the term when the court actually sits are known as sessions. The terms are usually designated by the time they commence, for example, November term. A term of court is also referred to in various jurisdictions as general term or trial term, meaning the term during which cases are tried.
