Quasi Corporations Definition

A term applied to those bodies which, though not vested with the general powers of corporations, are yet recognized by statutes or immemorial usage as persons or corporations aggregate, with power to sue and be sued in their aggregate capacity. 2 Kent, Comm. 274; 9 Mass. 247; 1 Me. 361. A body having capacity to make contracts in respect to county affairs, and having perpetual succession, is a quasi corporation (2 Wall. [U. S.] 501), e. g., the overseers of the poor (18 Johns. [N. Y.] 407).
