Practical Information

Note: Some of this information was last updated in 1982

Testamentary authorization to a donee (in U.S. law) to determine to whom testator’s property shall be distributed. If the donee is given an unrestricted power to dispose of property to any person or person he or she may choose, the power is general. When the donee’s power is restricted in favor of a particular person or class, such as only to members of the family of testator, he or she has a special or particular power of appointment.
