Pleader Definition

(Law Fr. pleador, pledor; old Fr. pleideoir; Law Lat. placitans advocatus). A person professionally employed to manage another’s cause for him, particularly to plead orally, or argue for him in court. ‘The use of professional pleaders or advocates may be traced, among some of the continental nations, to a period extremely remote. Steph. PL Append, note (8). In the assizes of Jerusalem, the term “pleader” (pledeoir), is used as nearly synonymous with “counsel” (conseill).
