Lord Mayor’s Court Definition

In English law. One of the chief courts of special and local jurisdiction in London. It is a court of the queen, held before the lord mayor and aldermen. Its practice and procedure are amended, and its powers enlarged, by 20 & 21 Vict. c. 157. In this court, the recorder, or, in his absence, the common serjeant, presides as judge; and from its judgments error may be brought in the exchequer chamber. 3 Steph. Comm. 449, note (1).
