Foreshore in United States
Foreshore Definition
That part of the land adjacent to the sea which is alternately covered and left dry by the ordinary flow of the tides, i. e., by the medium line between the greatest and least range of tide, spring tides and neap tides. In the later English decisions it appears to denote the shore and bed of the sea, and of every channel, creek, , bay, estuary, and of every navigable river of the United Kingdom, as far up the same as the tide flows. Gould, Water, § 27. In England it forms part of the adjoining county and is ordinarily and prima facie Vested in the crown, subject to the rights of the queen’s subjects of Ashing and navigation, not only in the sea, but in all tidal navigable rivers, and of passing over the foreshore itself; but it may belong to a subject, either by itself, or as part of a manor. 10 Price, 350, 378; 46 L. J. Ch. 654. Chitty, Prerog. 207.
