Fabric Lands Definition
In English law. Lands given for the repair, rebuilding, or maintenance of cathedrals or other churches. It was the custom, says Cowell, for almost every one to give by will more or less to the fabric of the cathedral or parish church where he lived. These lands so given were called “fabric lands,” because given ad fabricam ecclesiae reparandam, for repairing the fabric of the church. Called by the Saxons “timber lands.” Cowell; Spelman.
