Statement of Purpose
This website is designed, among other purposes, to solve three problems:
- the alienation of antitrust academics from practitioners.
- the alienation of law, economics, and public policy from each another.
- and the difficulty that everyone has in keeping up with recent developments.
To do this, we bring legal issues together with relevant economic research using the web hypertext format.
The project links four type of information: antitrust case documents (complaints, opinions, and expert testimony); enforcement guidelines and speeches; economic bibliographies; and current antitrust issues in the news. By linking the information together in a cohesive way, it is possible to expose lawyers to relevant economic research; expose economists to the legal issues that arise in antitrust cases; teach students about antitrust; and ultimately, to inform public policy.
Antitrust Analysis
Keeping the U.S economy and its markets fair and competitive is a long term and complex task. Theory and practice continually evolve and change. This powerful and concise Web compendium is organized the subject into three major groupings: Mergers, Price Fixing, and Vertical Restraints. Within each of these major groups are sections on Economics, Cases, Law & Policy, and Research Topics. Each section is further divided into subcategories such as economic research, law and policy, case studies, and news. This arrangement allows you to dig deep into a subject with relative ease. Clicking on a case study in Mergers, for example, reveals links to related Justice Department complaints, expert-witness testimony, court decisions, and appeals documents.
The documents are richly interlinked, exploiting fully the advantages of hypertext.
This Antitrust Law and Policy site strives to bridge the gaps between law and economics and between academics and practitioners.
