Attentive Public in the United States

Concept of Attentive Public

In the U.S., in the context of Ideology, Public Opinion and Media, Attentive Public has the following meaning: That part of the public that is attuned to current affairs and its media coverage. Much of the American public is disinterested in politics and policy, so opinion leaders and policy makers must direct their ideas to, and seek support from, the smaller attentive public, rather than the broad, general public.
