Established in 1948, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research coordinates and funds research on diseases and disorders of the gums, teeth, mouth, and jaw. The institute also studies methods of preventing and treating facial disfigurement caused by inherited disease, and it supports research involving the repair and regeneration of damaged facial tissues.” (1)
