Practical Information
Note: Some of this information was last updated in 1982
An association of individuals formed to conduct and carry on some particular business transaction, usually of a financial character. A syndicate more nearly resembles a joint adventure (in U.S. law) than any other business organization. Syndicates in general are temporary associations or firms. They usually terminate automatically when the purpose for which they were formed has been accomplished. In the securities trade, a syndicate is an association of investment bankers formed for the purpose of underwriting the distribution of a new security issue or a block of securities outstanding.
