Zimmerman’s Research Guide

Zimmerman’s Research Guide in the United States

The Zimmerman’s Research Guide was an online encyclopedia for legal researchers, authored by librarian and author (in Prentice Hall, one of the World’s Leading Education publishers) Andrew Zimmerman. This resource could be found at the Lexisnexis webpage. There were no charge, no sign-in, and no password to gain access to the Guide.

This Legal Research tool (long a trusted resource for legal librarians), while hosted by Lexis, was a broad and deep in its coverage and has references to all publishers’ titles and websites. Zimmerman’s Research Guide covered, at least in some entries, international and foreign research resources, in addition to U.S. law, which was prominent.

This online encyclopedia for legal researchers, in fact, was a listing of legal, business, and other information sources designed to help researchers get to the answer of a research question. Developed by a researcher for researchers, the Guide contained more than 1,000 subject headings (see below) that are continually updated by librarian Andrew Zimmerman.

The Guide did go off the Lexis Info Pro site at the end of 2015. There were no updated public version as of January 1, 2016.

It covered a variety of information formats, publishers and providers, and helped researchers determine what to do next, no matter where they are in their research. Each entry in the Zimmerman’s Research Guide was designed to tell researchers what they need to know and where to find it, along with some basic background information to get researchers up-to speed on the subject and on the right track. It included citations and references.
