Introduction to Wiley Blount Rutledge Jr.
Wiley Blount Rutledge, Jr. (1894-1949), American jurist and associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1943 to 1949. He was known as a liberal, often dissenting from conservative Court decisions. Born in Cloverport, Kentucky, United States, Rutledge studied law at the University of Colorado and was admitted to the bar in 1922. From 1924 to 1939 he taught law at Colorado, Washington, and Iowa universities. In 1939 he was appointed judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.” (1)
