Introduction to Travel and Tourism Administration

United States Travel and Tourism Administration, former agency of the United States Department of Commerce that promoted tourism to the United States by residents of foreign countries. The agency was established in 1961 as the United States Travel Service and renamed in 1981. In 1996 the United States Congress voted to eliminate the agency.

The United States Travel and Tourism Administration comprised several international offices and a research department. It conducted programs abroad to encourage foreign travel agents and tour operators to promote tourism to U.S. destinations. The agency also worked with domestic and foreign government officials to reduce barriers to international travel.” (1)
