Supreme Court Reports

Supreme Court Reports in the United States

Practical Information

The opinions of the Supreme Court were published officially in the United States Reports and unofficially in Supreme Court Reports, Lawyers Edition L.Ed. and Supreme Court Reporter. Supreme Court opinions are also reported in the United States Law Week.(Revised by Ann De Vries, 1982)

Therefore, in addition to the official reports (see United States Reports here), there are also two unofficial reporters of Supreme Court decisions:

  • Lawyers’ Edition of the U.S. Supreme Court Reports, cited L.Ed. 2d, contains all the decisions of the Supreme Court since 1791; the arguments of counsel are summarized for each case. This series is not maintained in the library.
  • Supreme Court Reporter, cited S.Ct., published by West Publishing Company, begins with volume 106 of the U.S. Reports (1882) and publishes all the decisions from the Supreme Court.
