Scrubber in Environmental Law

Air pollution technology that uses chemical reaction or absorption to remove pollutants from a polluted waste stream. A scrubber often uses a spray or mist and operates by causing the pollutant to precipitate so that it can be removed. Scrubbers are often used effectively for sulfur dioxides generated through combustion of fossil fuels. See also air pollution control technology; Clean Air Act; Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.
