Pupillaris Substitutio Definition

(Lat.) In civil law. The nomination of another besides his son pupil to succeed, if the son should not be able or inclined to accept the inheritance, or should die before he came of age to make a testament. If the child survive the age of puberty, though he made no testament, the substitute had no right of succession. See Bell, Diet. “Substitution;” Dig. 28. 6.
