Pretreatment in the United States
Pretreatment in Environmental Law
Methods used to remove enough pollutants from industrial wastewater before it is sent to a municipal treatment plant so that the pollutants do not cause the plant to violate its permit. Pretreatment is also used to ensure that the wastewater is treated and not simply released because the treatment plant does not have the capacity to deal with it. The targets of pretreatment are toxic water pollutants and abnormally large amounts of conventional pollutants. See also industrial user.
