The opinions of a court prepared by an appointed reporter and published under authorization of statute. All written U.S. Supreme Court decisions are printed in the official United States Reports. There is also statutory provision for official reporting and publication of judicial appellate decisions in all of the states. The largest group of unofficial reports is the national reporter system (in U.S. law) . See citation (in U.S. law), table II.

Official Reports in the Context of Law Research

The Thurgood Marshall School of Law Library defined briefly Official Reports as: The governmentally approved set of reported cases within a given jurisdiction. These reports are directed by statute.
