Magister Societatis Definition
(Lat.) In civil law. Managing partner. Vicat; Calv, Lex. Especially used of an officer employed in the business of collecting revenues, who had power to call together the tything men (decumands) , as it were a senate, and lay matters before them, and keep account of all receipts, etc. He had, generally, an agent in the province, who was also sometimes called magister societatis.
