Ethics of the Legal Secretary

The law secretary is bound by the same code of ethics as her employer. She cannot solicit business; she must regard everything about a client or a case as confidential. She never divulges the contents of a written document in the office without permission from the lawyer. She must never talk outside of the office about a case, even if the talk is merely an anecdote. If tempted to entertain friends with interesting tidbits about socially prominent clients, she always resists the temptation. Irreparable harm can result from mentioning anything about what is transpiring in a case.
