Legal Dictionaries in United States

A legal dictionary defines terms relevant to law. While there are several dictionaries to choose from, Black’s Law Dictionary and Ballentine’s Legal Dictionary and Thesaurus (see more about this legal research tool in this American legal Encyclopedia) are the two most popular. These are available in the Reference area of Langdell. Also, note that Black’s is available in Westlaw (database identifier is DI). Which legal dictionary the readers or users use is a matter of personal preference. the readers or users may also find, however, that after the first few weeks of school, the readers or users have only isolated occasions to refer to one.
