Law Of The Road Definition
The rules of law regulating the conduct of persons on highways to avoid collision with or other injury to other persons thereon. It cannot be stated in rules, but is a general duty to observe in speed, vigilance, etc., what due and ordinary care may require under the circumstances of the particular case. An illustration is that meeting vehicles should each turn to the right of the center of the road X28 Mich. 32; 195 Pa. St. 190), though nonobservance may be justified by circumstances (9 App. Div. [N. Y.] 68), and the rule does not apply as between vehicles and pedestrians (147 Mo. 679).
