The clause in an official certificate attesting that the affidavit (in U.S. law) or deposition was sworn to at a stated time before an authorized officer. It is often referred to as the “sworn to” clause. The form of jurat varies slightly in the different states. In a few states, the jurat recites the title of the officer and the state, or state and county, in which he or she is authorized to act. In a few other states, the name of the affiant is repeated in the jurat.

Signature of notary

The notary signs immediately beneath the jurat. The notary also affixes the notary’s seal and the expiration date of his or her commission.
