Specialists in relation to Immigration Courts

(information based on the DoJ Manual) Immigration specialists—who include visa consultants and “notarios”—are not authorized to practice law or appear before the Immigration Court. These individuals may be violating the law by practicing law without a license. As such, they do not qualify either as Accredited Representatives (people approved by the Board of Immigration Appeals to represent aliens before the Immigration Courts and the Board) or “reputable individuals” under the regulations. Anyone, including members of the public, may report instances of suspected misconduct by immigration specialists to the Executive Office for Immigration Review, Fraud Program.
