Encyclopedias in United States

Secondary sources which present background information for broad subjects. They do not present the critical analysis that the readers or users will find in scholarly treatises or law review articles. They are more rudimentary and as such present the readers or users with the blackletter law you may need as well as key references to primary sources which the readers or users may need if the readers or users are just beginning to research a problem with no substantive knowledge of that area of law. Two major legal encyclopedia which are national in scope are Corpus Juris Secundum known as CJS (see more about this legal research tool in this American legal Encyclopedia) and American Jurisprudence 2d known as AmJur2d (see more about this legal research tool in this American legal Encyclopedia). Both of these are located in the Langdell Reading Room. the readers or users will also find legal encyclopedia for particular states such as New York Jurisprudence 2d (see more about this legal research tool in this American legal EncyclopediaN5065 .N48) and California Jurisprudence 3d (see more about this legal research tool in this American legal Encyclopedia).
