Emptio Bonorum Definition
In the Roman law. The assignment of the estate and effects of an insolvent debtor, whether during his life or after his death, to a trustee for his creditors. Justinian deprived it of all its cumbrous formalities, but retained its effect, which is simply or very nearly that of an assignment upon bankruptcy in English law.
