Direct Definition
Straightforward; immediate; not collateral. The direct line of descent is formed by a series of relationships between persons who descend successively one from the other. Evidence is termed “direct” which applies immediately to the fact to be proved, without any intervening process, as distinguished from “circumstantial,” which applies immediately to collateral facts supposed to have a connection, near or remote, with the fact in controversy. The examination in chief of a witness is called the “direct examination.” Interrogatories propounded to a deponent by the party by whom the deposition is taken are called “direct interrogatories.”

Direct in the context of the Political Party Committees
In this context, Direct may be defined as follows: For the purposes of 11CFR Part 300, to direct means to guide, directly or indirectly, a person who has expressed an intent to make a contribution, donation, transfer of funds, or otherwise provide anything of value, by identifying a candidate, political committee or organization for the receipt of such funds, or things of value. The contribution, donation, transfer or thing of value may be provided directly or through an intermediary. Direction does not include merely providing information or guidance as to the applicability of a particular law or regulation. 300.2(n).
