Banned Commercial Arms Trade in the History of U.S. Economic Sanctions Imposed against China

Date of the sanction(s): AUGUST 26, 1955
The Office of Munitions Control (now the Office of Defense Trade Controls) in the U.S. Department of State was responsible for drafting and implementing International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which govern the export of defense articles and services. Effective August 26, 1955, the ITAR stated that it was United States policy to ban exports of defense articles and services to, and imports from, certain countries and areas. The People’s Republic of China was one of the countries originally listed, but is no longer [10].
