Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (apec) Forum in the International Business Landscape

Definition of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (apec) Forum in the context of U.S. international business and public trade policy: An informal grouping of 18 Asian and Pacific Rim nations that provides a forum for discussing economic and trade issues. The members include Australia, Brunei Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States. Originally, meetings were at the ministerial level; however, the November 1993 meeting, hosted by President Clinton in Seattle, brought together the heads of state of almost all members. At the 1994 summit, the leaders agreed to eliminate barriers to trade and investment among industrialized members by 20 10 and among all members by 2020.
