ALI-CLE (ALI-ABA) in the United States

The ALI-ABA was a joint project of the American Law Institute (ALI) and the American Bar Association (ABA). The ALI took full control in 2012, and the name was changed to ALI-CLE. The main purpose of the organization was and is to produce Continuing Legal Education programs and publications for lawyers.

You can buy ALI-CLE materials directly from the ALI-CLE web site, including back issues of periodicals. Alternatively, you’ll find many ALI-CLE publications in larger academic, bar association and government law libraries either in hard copy or on microfiche. You can buy copies of articles from ALI-CLE/ABA periodicals from UMI.

Articles from ALI-CLE/ABA “Course Study” materials and many ALI-CLE/ABA periodicals, including The Practical Lawyer, are searchable in the Lexis Law Review database.

Lots of ALI-CLE/ABA materials are on Westlaw in the ALI-ABA database, including course handbooks (which usually have a “C” before the volume number. They can also be accessed, with a pinpoint cite, through the WestCheck or “Find” services.) Articles from The Practical Lawyer are searchable in the PRACLAW database.

Contact Information: The ALI’s phone number is 800-253-6397 or 800-CLE-NEWS. For questions about ALI-ABA materials, ask for Customer Service or the Library.
