Alabama Legal Materials

The Alabama Code and Constitution are posted on the Alabama Legislative Information System Online (just click the tabs on the left). Internet links to Alabama government agencies, municipal codes and primary legal materials (statutes, regulations, cases, etc.) are posted by and FindLaw.

Legislation:To check the status of pending legislation, select Bills from the link on the left of the Alabama Legislative Information System Online (ALISON) website and then select “Find Status of A Bill.” For questions, call the Alabama House of Representatives (334-242-7627) or Senate (334-242-7825).

For Bills, Bill Status, Acts, Reports and other legislation from prior sessions back to 1998, go to ALISON and click on the session date at the top of the page (e.g., “Regular Session 2011”).

Alabama session laws (“Acts”) from 1818 to 1836 are posted free by the Alabama Legislature. HeinOnline has historical session laws from 1818 to about two years back in the subscription-based Session Laws Library. The Alabama Legislature also posts a very basic website on legislative history resources.

Regulations: The Official Alabama Administrative Code is published in print by the Alabama Legislative Reference Service (334-242-7570). An unnoffical version is posted free at www.alabamaadministrativecode.state.al.us/docs/mainmenu.html.

Notices of new regulations are published in the Alabama Administrative Monthly. You can search and retrieve Alabama regs using the AL State Net Regulatory Text database on Lexis.

Docket Sheets and Case Information: Trial court docket sheets, case information and tracking is available from Just One Look, and alacourt.com. Appellate case information is available from ACIS.alabama.gov, but subscriptions are available only for attorneys licensed to practice in Alabama.
