Senatorial Courtesy in the United States

Concept of Senatorial Courtesy

In the U.S., in the context of Judiciary power and branch, Senatorial Courtesy has the following meaning: The practice of senators giving their fellow senators the courtesy of their vote to support or oppose their decision on a judicial nominee in their state. Because of this Senate norm, presidents defer to senators (of their own party) in selection of district court judges. (Source of this definition of Senatorial Courtesy : University of Texas)
