The unethical and sometimes illegal practice of issuing checks against a bank account in which there are not sufficient collected funds to cover the check, with the expectation that before the check drawn is presented for payment funds will be deposited to make good the withdrawal. A bank may close the account of a depositor who is detected in this practice.
